Background:
Downend School was formed in 1982, with the upper school building on Westerleigh Road and the lower school situated at North View, Staple Hill. In September 1999, the school became a Technology College. Together with its excellent existing ICT facilities and learning resource centre, there is new specialist accommodation for art, music, science, technology, mathematics, languages and humanities. The school also has enhanced sports facilities, which include a floodlit all weather pitch. The school provides a wide variety of extra-curricular and out of school activities. It has two concert bands, choirs and various groups/ensembles. A range of clubs including various sports clubs take place either after-school or at lunchtime. A number of educational visits also take place on a regular basis during and after-school hours. The school aims to maximise each student's achievement and preparedness for life by providing a caring and secure environment in which tolerance, understanding and respect for others is fostered.
