Established in 1684, formerly named the Endowed School; the only school in village of Wickwar, an area of natural beauty; serves a changing and growing village community. Completed in 1991, the present school building took the name 'Alexander Hosea' to maintain a link with the founder of the former establishment. In 1995, three classrooms added; extended again in 1999, with three more classrooms. Set in 'excellent' grounds and commands 'breathtaking' view over Cotswolds. Broad and balanced curriculum, with high priority given to numeracy, literacy and science. Numerous extra-curricular activities, including performing arts and physical education; musicians and theatre groups also welcomed; 'excellent' hall for such activities. Strong parental support;long-standing Parent-Teacher Association contributes 'substantially' to school finances and social life of village; home and community links 'active and good'; support of different charities timetabled each year. 'The school aims to provide a caring, happy environment where all are encouraged to achieve their full potential'.
