Background:
Set in a 'beautiful Cotswold environment', Down Ampney C of E Primary is a 'small village school' founded almost 150 years ago. Ralph Vaughan-Williams' hymn 'Down Ampney' was inspired by the village and his father, a vicar, taught at the school. In 1999, Gloucestershire Rural Community Council, which is involved with the progress of small village schools, gave the school a commendation. The grounds include 'large' sports fields and the school is 'well equipped' with the use of computers being emphasised. Down Ampney has links with Italian, French and Finnish primary schools.
