Background:

Although there has been a church school in the parish of Alveston since 1835, the present school was established in the mid-1960s and now serves local children and those from further afield, who travel in on the school coach. The school'stands in 'attractive' gardens, comprising two playgrounds, two adventure centres, a heated indoor swimming pool and football and netball facilities. Indoor facilities include an information technology room with networked computers, a hall fitted as a gymnasium and a 'large' library. The school caters for 'all levels of ability', with 'generous' support offered to those with special educational needs. Drama is often linked with the curriculum and theatre groups are regularly invited to perform at school. Visits are frequently arranged to extend learning, with older children enjoying outdoor pursuits on an annual residential visit. Pupils can receive tuition in a range of musical instruments. They also participate in a 'wide' variety of sporting activities, taking part in area tournaments in football and athletics. The 'thriving' Parent-Teacher Association raises funds for the school and parents are welcome to help in the classroom. The school values its Christian ethos and maintains links with the nearby church.
