Background:
The Sir Bernard Lovell School is a popular and successful comprehensive school, which caters for girls and boys of all abilities between the ages of 11 and 19. The school was opened in 1972 by the scientist Sir Bernard Lovell, who spent his early years in Oldland. The physical education staff provides an extra-curricular programme covering very wide range of games and activities. Music plays a significant part in the life of the school. A range of instrumental ensembles and choral groups meet every week. It has regular concerts throughout the year. There are many other opportunities for students to join subject-based and recreational clubs; students are also offered a full programme of lunchtime and holiday revision sessions before their examinations. The learning resources centre and ICT facilities are available for students at lunchtimes and after school. This school has a caring atmosphere.
