Background:

Sherborne Church of England Controlled School has a Christian foundation which it seeks to promote by providing high quality education for all its pupils. The school is situated in the Cotswold Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, three miles east of Northleach and five miles west of Burford. The school'stands at the heart of the village, which has been owned by the National Trust since 1987. The school was built in 1868 by the third Lord Sherborne and has retained its traditional appearance. The school building itself is owned by the National Trust who lease it to the local education authority. The core subjects of the national curriculum are English, mathematics, science and information technology. The children are taught English and mathematics every morning in accordance with the national literacy strategy and the national numeracy strategy. History, geography, design technology, art, music and physical education are foundation subjects. The school aims to provide a stimulating, purposeful and safe environment, rich in opportunities for learning so that children may develop their full potential and acquire the important basic skills needed for learning and for life .
