Founded in 1921; moved to purpose-built accommodation on open site on outskirts of Gloucester in 1961; expansion in 1980s resulted in temporary classrooms; technology block opened in 1992; performing arts suite in summer 2003 Extensive sports area, with newly-resurfaced tennis/netball courts. Became grant-maintained in April 1990 to safeguard status as girls' grammar. Extra-curricular strengths are music, sport and the performing arts; particularly well-known for dance. 'Successive heads have fostered the traditions of individuality and courteous friendship (the Ribston spirit) which the first head established.' Specialist humanities college status. Over-subscribed, with nearly four applications per place. Artsmark Gold (2005); Sportsmark (2005); Investor in People status (2001).
