Background:

Olveston's original school site was built in 1836 which now houses the hall and administrative block. In 1968, the infant department, including three classrooms was added and then in 1999, the junior department was completed providing four additional classrooms, a home economics block, work areas and art room. The library, museum and special needs room are currently in the three temporary rooms. The school provides a thriving computer room with internet access, scanning, video and digital facilities. Junior department has developed skills afternoon approach, catering for specialist teaching in IT, woodwork, 3D art work, German, and technology. The school's football team is a success and other extra-curricular activities include gymnastics, netball, cricket, athletics, rounders, choir, violin, drums, guitar, flute and recorder. During the summer, a cycling proficiency programme is available for older children. The school has an active parent's association and maintain firm links with church and community, the choir team performs regularly at local venues. Awards obtained include the Investor in People award (2001) and DfES achievement award (2001). Olveston prides itself on offering a 'warm, friendly, academic atmosphere that caters for each child's individual needs'. The school aims to provide a stimulating, secure and caring environment that is enhanced by the Christian ethos of the school, enabling children to develop skills for life and belief in their individual potential, so that they may make an effective contribution to society.
