Background:

Pitville School was opened in 1986. Formerly a girls' grammar, it is set in a conservation area adjacent to the famous 'Pump Rooms' of Cheltenham, centre of the original 'spa town'. The school became Grant Maintained in 1993, and achieved Foundation status in 1999. The school houses dedicated technology rooms added in 1998 (boasting 70 computers on the internet), a large library added in 1992 and an English block added in 1997. 'Sports can be accommodated within the grounds of the school.' A general education is provided covering all subjects in the National Curriculum. The school was 'Schools Curriculum Award Winner' 1992, and was awarded; 'Education Extra Certificate of Distinction 1999, Investors in People Award 1999, 'A' Grade for GCSE improvement DfEE in 1998.' The school achieved a 'Prince's Trust Study Support Centre' in 1998 and a 'Lottery Funded Tennis Centre' in 1996. The school has 'no catchment area' and takes pupils of all abilities. The school was not oversubscribed in 1998.
