Background:
Opened in 1977, Heron Primary was 'extensively' extended in 1987 in response to demand for places. The purpose-built accommodation is surrounded by three playgrounds, a 'large' playing field, an environmental area and a pond which is maintained by the Bug Club. The school takes an 'active' part in inter-school sports and children have been selected to represent Gloucester City schools in cross country and football competitions. Further extra-curricular activities include chess, a band, recorder groups, netball, first aid, infant sports and three different choirs. The school has a 'high' reputation for music and the choirs have been asked to perform at the cathedral to be broadcast on radio. Heron Primary fosters links with schools in Italy, Hungary and Holland and works to raise money for 'many' local and national charities. The school is currently oversubscribed in all year groups.
