Background:
Situated on the northern outskirts of Yate, about 11 miles from Bristol, the 'modern' school buildings were opened in 1978. The school is over-subscribed, with an average of 1.4 applications per place. The grounds contain 'excellent' specialist facilities. There is a unit for physically-handicapped pupils, all of whom are fully integrated into mainstream classes and follow the full curriculum. For sports, there are 'very extensive' playing fields on site, a floodlit athletics track and an Astroturf hockey pitch. School teams in a variety of sports provide a 'steady stream' of county representatives. The school also boasts an 'excellent' music department, with an orchestra and three school bands. An 80-member concert band undertakes a tour of Europe every other year. Staff are 'young and committed' and pupils are 'friendly and hard-working'.
