Background:
The present building was opened in 1872 and combines traditional character with up-to-date modern facilities. It has three classrooms, a computer room, a library, cloakrooms and office. The 'green' outside the school is used as a play area and for outdoor activities. The school is well resourced with IT equipment and software. It has projectors and interactive whiteboards. Laptop computers and digital cameras are used in the classroom and on field trips. The school is an active member of the local cluster group of five small schools. Equipment and expertise are shared between the schools, which also join together for some sporting, musical and other curricular activities. This gives children the opportunity to meet children and teachers from other schools. Extra-curricular activities include French, netball and cross-country. Pupils worship in Church once in a week. On other days, worship is held in the school. Science is a strength of the school, with excellent results. The school also raises money for charity in each term. Oakridge School has a very close bond between families, community and school. The school aims for the pupils to be happy, responsible and responsive.
