Background:
Hanham Abbots Junior School was opened in 1936 and shares its campus with Samuel Whites Infant School and Hanham High Secondary. The site is 22 acres and includes 'large, flat' playing fields. The school building is single storey with a library, eight classrooms and a 'large and spacious' playground and terrace. Extra-curricular activities include choir, recorders, chess, netball, football, dance, basketball and a bookshop. In 1998/9 the school won the South Gloucestershire Football Cup and for the past six years have been the winners of the Britain in Bloom competition. 'From time to time' school visits to places of educational interest are offered and children in Year 6 have an opportunity to go on a residential adventure break for five days. Hanham Abbots believe that 'every child's potential is best brought out in an atmosphere of care, high expectations and firm but friendly discipline'.
